Rock City Grill

My sis came to visit and on one of our treks we visited Rock City Grill located in the downtown mall at 808 W. Main.  I am really glad we went, I liked this place.  My sister liked the idea of it being Italian, but we didn't order any pasta anything.  In the end, besides having a fun day at the mall together, we ate some great tasting food.

She ordered a Blue Moon beer....

It just so happened to be "Happy Hour" and we ordered some apppetizer-types of foods on sale.
I think we were hungry....
We enjoyed a Thai Pizza... well, a couple of slices from it...
(We actually ended up with a LOT of food and took some home!)

Asian Lettuce Wraps...
and enjoyed also some of the Dungeoness. Crab Spread on Pita Bread...

I enjoyed looking out the window to watch the Gondolas from Riverfront Park in operation.  I seemed such a Spokane kinda thing to do!

The service was great, the food was plentiful and yummy.  We even had leftovers to be enjoyed the next day.  They packaged our food neatly for us to take with us and we had a nice visit with each other  too.

Life is good.

One thing i like about this place too, is that THEY WANT TO HEAR from customers.....
like me and you.

Our Thai House

While driving by myself one day I noticed this new restaurant called Our Thai House.  It looked interesting to me and so I decided to tell Geo about it so that we would try it out sometime.  The funny thing is that when I mentioned it to Geo, he had seen it on his own too.  Needless to say, since we both like Thai food, it was the next one our list.

Finally, after many evenings, we have a chance to go!  We called ahead to make reservations, but as it turns out they were not needed, the lady on the phone told us to just come in.  Se we did.

This place is located at 1415 n. Hamilton St. Spokane in the the Gonzaga area of town.  It is very welcoming inside, the kind of place that will make you want to visit Thailand.... (Geo always wants to go to Thailand and visit.).

We ordered Tom Kha soup....one of our favorites.  This one was made with tomatoes... a little different style than other places I have been.  It was good!  Curiously enough we were asked what kind if meat we wanted in our soup.  Other places I have been, it has always been served with chicken, so we asked for chicken.  This was our choice of "appetizer."

To go with our soup, we ordered the sticky rice.  I think I prefer the regular rice, for the soup, but Geo really liked the sticky.

We also ordered Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles and Mussamun Curry with Rice.  We also had Thai Tea.   There were three of us eating and when we were done we still had food to take home.

The waitress returned after taking our order and told us they had run out of chicken.. go figure!  So we  had to make adjustments in our order.  Instead of chicken  in the Tom Kha, we had beef and we liked it very much.

Our meal was served with a little salad.  This was a nice surprise.

We enjoyed our soup first (not pictured) followed by the rest.

Adjustments to our dinner meant that we had pork in the Pad Thai and Shrimp for the Drunken Noodles and I do not remember what we asked to have for the curry, but it came with chicken... to our surprise.

Go figure that one too.

Mussamun Curry with Rice

We really liked the curry.  It wad very peanutty and yummy-spicy too.  We would've had to ask for (or order) more rice to go with the curry though...if we didn't already have so much food to eat.

The other two dishes were good, but did not stand out, like the curry!

It is really good to have another Thai food restaurant in town and a pretty one too.  There are definitely some special touches here....

They have what they call, a "spirit house."  (seen here in the left.)
Most Thai food places have some representations of their homeland culture, usually there are pictures of the king and queen, sometimes little altars with fruits and food and things... but this is the first spirit house I have seen or noticed.  I did not inquire about the house, but you can read about it at the links provided here if you want to know more about what it is, or you can ask if you visit.

This is a tasty spot, but I do think that it's a little more expensive than some other of my already favorite Thai places around town.  (See photo of menu above.) They do have that coupon card though, where ...if you buy 9 meals and have your card punched  you'll get ten dollars off your total bill on one of your subsequent visits, but probably that will have paid for itself, so I didn't get one, but in my opinion, Thai food, is always delicious and definitely fun to eat with friends.  If in the neighborhood, I would love to eat Thai food here again..

The Otis Grill

Otis Grill is a new favorite on the breakfast scale for Geo and I.  Have you been here?

This restaurant, located in the Otis Orchards area, might be a little far for you if you are not looing to take a drive, but it just a hop, skip, and a jump from the freeway if you are traveling between Spokane a Coeur de Alene, (or anywhere in-between.)  Otis Grill, located at 21902 E. Wellsley Avenue... in Otis Orchards, WA, specializes in "hometown" cooking... and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and in the spring summer, autumn or winter, too.

The day we went for breakfast, there was snow on the ground.

It was indeed a beautiful biscuit and gravy, eggs and bacon... and pancake day,
 made complete with maple syrup.
And who does not love Rosie the Riveter, Marilyn Monroe and old cars?
I did say, "hometown"... right?
It's not a fancy spot.  In fact, when you arrive, they invite you to pick your own seating, (in other words, seat yourself...) and evidently the people here feel right "at home."

If you are wondering about the menu.... here's an idea of what is served:

And.. if you are adventurous, like James T. Kirk, pictured here on the menu, you can order the quadruple Otis Burger....

Pho Saigon

It was a little bit of deja-vu when we were seated for I remembered that we had been here before, but under a different name.  This restaurant is new... and yummy!  The people were really helpful too.  If you know nothing about Vietnamese food, they will surely help you.  Vietnamese food is wonderful.

11808 E. Sprague is the address.

Here is the Spring Roll appetizer... one of my favorite things to order at a Vietnamese restaurant.  They are different from the Thai or Chinese Spring Rolls.  These are dipped in a peanut sauce.

We had Pho and a Pan Fried Noodle dish, that I forgot the name of.  Here is the pan fried noodles:

This dish is amazing.  The noodles are crispy and dry. But when the hot meat, vegetables, and sauce are poured over the middle of the noodles, the noodles become soft, and semi-crunchy.. really fun to eat!

The Pho was really tasty too.

Did's Pizza and Froyo

Did's Pizza and Fro Yo ix located on Division St... 5406.... right next to Thai Bamboo.  In fact both stores have the same owner.  In addition to Pizza and Frozen Yogurt they have Calzones, Salads, Espresso, Fresh Juices, Bubble Tea, Shaved Ice, Smoothies, and Hawaiian Barbecue Pork and Chicken too.  The emphasis here is on the Hawaiian... It feels quite tropical.

Being as it s a "surf-y" little place, you can be sure it is a fun spot to visit in the summer time, but in Spokane in winter... if you need to chase away the winter blues... this might be the place for you.  At night it is especially fun as as there are lots of neon lights.

It is a fun decor.  They have kind of a light show inside as the lights flash while music plays... and they have some video games you can play.

I could not believe how many flavors of froyo they had to offer.  Then I discovered that each machine holds two that mix together to give you a different flavor.  It was still a lot of flavors!  Froyo is self serve... and you may sample to see if you like it too.

This little girl wants the "pink" Cupcake flavor.

Cupcake with sprinkles.

This oven for cooking pizza has eyes....

It was fun to watch this man make the shaved ice!  It was huge!
I thought Did's was fun.

Pete & Belles Ice Cream Shop

I had seen this new ice scream shop out of the corner of my eye while driving... and thought to stop, but I needed a good excuse.  Finally the opportunity arose.... a birthday!

Hooray for birthday's  and ice cream!  Hooray for fun ice cream flavors!

Flavors of choice include such marvelous creations as Birthday Cake, Cotton Candy, Chocolate, Moose Tracks, Rainbow Sherbet, Coffee, Peanut Butter, Oreo, Chocolate Chip... there were a lot to choose from.  They even make it a point to specify which ice creams are not gluten free.  The ice cream is made in Wisconsin... and shipped here.

I opted for a Hot Fudge Sundae.

This place offers caffeinated ice cream.  I thought that was a great idea, however you have to be careful ordering if caffeine is not your thing.  Of course, instead of going for coffee break, you could have an ice cream break instead!

Also they make Ice Cream Cakes.... and there is really cake in them.  They are ice cream and cake in one!

Plus...in true "Northwest" form, you can get huckleberries on your ice cream!

But wait.... there's more in store if you visit here...

This ice scream shop is a sister store to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory which is right next door.  They share the building.  It was fun to go and look at all the chocolates....

Chocolate covered cherries,
Chocolate covered strawberries,
fudge,
caramel apples,
and a wide variety of chocolate confections....
all for sale!

Oh.... and as they say in their nutrition note on their web page,
"This is the best ice cream made, and it tastes so good because it has gobs of rich cream, tons of real ingredients for boat-loads of luscious flavors. You want nutrition, eat carrots."
