Sushi Sakai Suchi and Saki Bar

Sushi Saki serves many things.... especially sushi.
They had quite a selection and make beautiful "party boats" too!

Please see their menu, here.

This is a family owned restaurant.... with lots of room... and options for seating.  It is located at the intersection of Bowdish and Sprague... in Spokane Valley at 11520 East Sprague Ave.

It is also pretty authentic.
Here is our tea and miso soup!  It was, "Oh sooooo good!"
While I have tasted sushi. and I like many of the flavors, it's not my favorite things o the menu.
We selected the tempura vegetables.. which IS one of my favorites!
and we were in the mood for Korean...

We ordered Bolgogi!  Pork and Chicken.  Here are the condiments that were served with it:

One can be happy when you can enjoy it the next day also!

They offer catering, and private rooms and rates for  private parties.  They are also listed on the Urbanspoon "gluten free friendly" restaurant list if that is of interest to you. too.

Canaan Buffet

Just when you thought there was enough buffet restaurants in our city..."Whalla!" Another one appears! And it's specialty is Chinese!

Tonight we visited the Canaan Buffet.
It took us a while to find this place and all the while it was right before us.  Maybe it was because it  is located in the same spot where another restaurant of it's kind, (this would be the Black Jack Buffet,)  had closed?   Maybe it was because Geo and I already have so many favorite places to go already?  I do not know for sure, but I sure am glad we tried this one.  It's great!

Canaan Buffet is located in the North Point Shopping Center..  I love the beautifully ornate wood carved decorations in the dividing panels of the booths, and the overall atmosphere... it's a very pretty place with a lovely water feature.  You can count the goldfish and hunt for the turtle while you wait to be seated.

Canaan offers a Mongolian grill, a sushi bar and a vast array of pan Asian and American Cuisine.   The presentation of the food on the buffet was very welcoming.

Our first stop was the sushi bar....
I couldn't even tell you what it was that we ate. Geo just picked out some for us while I got the condiments and we ate it all.  Everything was delicious!  The sushi bar was beautiful, but then, I tend to look at sushi more as a work of art then food.  How great it is to eat such art.

The most spectacular thing for me was these beautiful dumplings...  I have never seen anything like this before.  On the upper left, you can see some kind of banana leaf cooked rice package, and I have only seen that once before.  Geo really liked the banana leaf one.  The rose looking dumpling was similar to a bean ball that I have had before that I really like, and the other one has some kind of meat inside of it.  I thought them both to be amazing!  Another work of edible art!

As you can see, we tried a lot of different dishes, and some Hot and Sour soup.  Geo's is the one with the crunchies....

I am picky about Hot and Sour soup.  This one passed the test.  It was very tasty hot and sour soup, not too hot and not too sour and not too salty, and so, it got our approval.

Little steam coffee cups on
the cappuccino flavored cake
Butterflies on the Black Forrest Cake

I just had to take a picture of the decorations on these cakes!

We had some tea and dessert too.

For dessert, I had some fruit and Geo has a conglomeration of his favorite things.   Geo fed me a bit of his apple pie... a-la-mode and this resulted in me having a little bit of my own.  Now, for the record, I don't particularly like the idea of self-service hard ice cream at buffet restaurants, but I made an exception.

The pie was still steaming by the way.  Delicious!

We did not see any Kim Chee and that was sad, but I saw that in their selection of food they served rice noodle chow mien.  Also, there is the Mongolian Grill area.   This is where you select your meat, veggies, spices, and they cook it up stir-fry style for you, right on the spot!

There certainly is a lot to like about this place.

Their advertising says, CHILDREN UNDER 5 ARE ALWAYS FREE any time. And on Tuesdays, CHILDREN (12 and Under) EAT FREE with a purchase of two (2) adult meals. They they have take-out (you pay by the pound) and they offer catering as well as a banquet room you can reserve.

Golden Dragon (Post Falls, ID)

We crossed the state line for this one.  Food was not our destination of the day, but we did happen to eat here and to our surprise it was very good.
The name of this place is the Golden Dragon, and its location is Post Falls, Idaho.  It was a Chinese/American food kinda place, and it looked like it had been here for a while.  Skeptical, we asked a restaurant patron who was leaving the place, walking to her car, how the food was; she enthusiastically endorsed it, saying that this was her favorite restaurant.

Now, we do keep in mind that most people, when you ask them how the restaurant they just ate ate was, will say it is good, but her enthusiasm seemed quite sincere and her good report was highly encouraging, so we decided to try it.

Since food was not our destination that day, and because we were out of Spokane area, blogging was not on my agenda, but then the food came.  It looked so pretty.... and eating here was fun, (a.k.a. relaxing and delicious) so I started taking pictures for the blog.  Now, you get this blog post.

The inside reminded me of an old soda fountain kinda place inside with a long bar for seating singles that probably gets busy for lunch.  There are lots of tables and booths too.

This is the appetizer, Rangoons.  It is different than most places I have been and was yummy too.

We also ordered a Beef Noodle Soup and Chow Mein.  We ate "family-style," which means, we shared.

I am still learning the different kinds of Chow Mein....  and I have decided that I like the kind with the crunchy noodles best.  This one had crunchy noodles on the bottom.  I have to admit, it was hard to know what to order.  There was a great selection.

We loved the hanging lanterns.  They gave the place it's oriental feel.  The place is definitely Chinese/American though... There you are eating your Chinese food, with oldies American music playing in the background.

You gotta love Idaho.

Avacado Buffet

This restaurant has closed or changed names.
       *****************************

There is yet another new restaurant in Spokane, as of May 2011 anyhow.  It's called, the Avocado Buffet.  Geo noticed it while driving by and he took note of this sign:

It reads, "Chinese, Japanese, Korean Cuisine."

Needless to say, a few days later we had to give this place a try.

It is kinda tucked away in this shopping center, 328 North Sullivan Road.

Inside, it is very attractive; I liked it.  I especially liked the higher tables.

We were there after eight, but they stay open till nine, and I must say, they did a good job of making sure the food was available till closing time.  There were food items that I liked better than others, but over all I thought it was great restaurant... if you like Asian buffet.

Selections I remember were:
sushi, shrimp in butter sauce, barbecue spare ribs, egg roll, curry chicken, sweet and sour chicken or poured on them,) chow mein, pork bulgoki, teriyaki chicken, and there was more;  I just do not remember all the items I saw.  They also had a salad bar and desserts.

I am not sure if the menu changes throughout the week or not, but there were some nice options.

If you eat here, I recommend that you skip the American style plates and go for the Japanese styled ones.  They are great!

Pictured here is:  (clock-wise)
Hot and Sour Soup,
Cucumber Kimchee
Garlic Green Beans (my favorite)
Curry Chicken, (Yum!)
Deep Fried Chicken pieces, for dipping in
         Sweet and Sour Sauce
and an array of various melons
                           ...from the salad bar.
As I mentioned, I especially liked the special Japanese style plates with sections to put your food in.  They are a very nice way to serve and eat your food.

Geo had the spicy seafood soup.  He began with just a taste and had "seconds."  Here is the "firsts."  It was definitely spicy and definitely seafoody.  It even has little squiddies in it.

Not for the novice spicy food eater..... if you know what I mean.  For the adventurous novice, the Hot and Sour soup was great.

They had great iced tea too... several flavor choices.... not Coca Cola flavored tea though.

Me?
Green beans and kimchee cukes, please.  Yum!

While we still have our favorite buffet (and Asian) places to eat in town, we are glad there is a wide variety of buffet style restaurants in Spokane, and we welcome another one.   No doubt, our favorite buffets are ones with an Asian flair!
