Did's Pizza and Froyo

Did's Pizza and Fro Yo ix located on Division St... 5406.... right next to Thai Bamboo.  In fact both stores have the same owner.  In addition to Pizza and Frozen Yogurt they have Calzones, Salads, Espresso, Fresh Juices, Bubble Tea, Shaved Ice, Smoothies, and Hawaiian Barbecue Pork and Chicken too.  The emphasis here is on the Hawaiian... It feels quite tropical.

Being as it s a "surf-y" little place, you can be sure it is a fun spot to visit in the summer time, but in Spokane in winter... if you need to chase away the winter blues... this might be the place for you.  At night it is especially fun as as there are lots of neon lights.

It is a fun decor.  They have kind of a light show inside as the lights flash while music plays... and they have some video games you can play.

I could not believe how many flavors of froyo they had to offer.  Then I discovered that each machine holds two that mix together to give you a different flavor.  It was still a lot of flavors!  Froyo is self serve... and you may sample to see if you like it too.

This little girl wants the "pink" Cupcake flavor.

Cupcake with sprinkles.

This oven for cooking pizza has eyes....

It was fun to watch this man make the shaved ice!  It was huge!
I thought Did's was fun.

Colbert Trading Company

The Colbert Trading Company is a convenience store, selling milk, bread, candy, beer and things like that, as it has been for years, but now it has a new twist.  Recently remodeled,  they now offer Take and Bake pizza along with espresso, ice cream, hot dogs, and soup and sandwiches as well as indoor and outdoor seating.  It's a little off the beaten path, but it is sure aims to please both locals and visitors to the area.  They really do have something for everyone.

There is not a lot of seating indoors, but there is more outside.

Pictured here is the Veggie Pizza Sandwich, only $2.99 with cheese green pepper, mushrooms and red onion:

Noble Roman's Pizza Express

This particular Noble Roman's opened without me even noticing  (Maybe it's a little bit stealth?  Maybe I have not been thinking of pizza..... and not thinking of take and bake?)  The shop is easy to find, just a little tucked into the north end of the parking lot of the North Point shopping Center, Hawthorn and Division. There is parking as well as a convenient drive up window, jut nowhere to eat your pizza inside.
At any rate, upon discovering this new drive-through take-and-bake pizza place in north Spokane, (near the north end of the parking area of the North Point Shopping Center,) we just had to try it!  However. we did not use the drive-through. We went inside to get a really good look at the place and see what kind of pizza and pizza process they had.

Right away someone came into the lobby to explain their "P'ZA "menu....They were very helpful.

There were also a variety of pizza/cooking supplies for sale in the lobby.  They sell.pans, cutters, racks, mitts, paddles... things like that.

But on to the real reason we were there......food.  Inside, they have a case with some ready made products..... pizza, salads and desserts.  They also make wraps, subs, salads and offer on-line coupons.
We did not have a coupon.... because we found this place by driving by.... but now I know!
And I do like this take and bake option for pizza.
The place felt like a sub sandwich shop where you could tell them what items you want them to put or not put on your pizza.

Here is our pizza being made.  It is a Sicilian thick crust.  They make it up, you take it, and bake it at home.  We actually ordered a second pizza while we were there and this was just for just a few dollars more.  Our plan was to bake the second pizza another day.  The pizza comes with complete instructions for baking.

Whalla!  P'ZA!

Here is our Alfredo Chicken pizza, number two.  It is a regular crust.

And now for something completely different.... Geo cooks at home!
These instructions are easy to understand.

The pizza cooked up nicely.  Serves eight.

And the pizza tasted great!  This special dough and sauce made it seems a little bit like lasagna.   Maybe it was the power of suggestion of the pan too?  We definitely liked it.   We took the other pizza to a friends house when we visited and that pizza was delicious too.

Noble Roman's will get my business again.  Next time, I may even use the drive-thru.

Buck's Pizza

I was planning for a pizza party gathering over in the valley and needed some gluten-free pizza.  Bucks offered it, so off we went.... to 13221 East 32nd Ave.  Gluten-free pizza is not on their menu, and they do not make it in house, but it's advertised on a reader board on the side of the road.  It's certainly a great option when it comes to people sensitive to wheat, because pizza is such a social food.

Buck's is actually a large pizza chain, popular in the south eastern U.S.  I would have never known unless I checked out their website.  Tucked in a little strip mall in a rather obscure part of town, I was surprised how busy the place was... for the location.  As we were going in to pick up our order, the delivery guy was heading out the door...

... with one of the largest pizza boxes I have ever seen.  It was for a 24"" pizza pie.  That is one big pizza!

It's not a sit down pizza place.... just take out.  I failed to see any dining area.

Gluten-Free
As for our pizzas', they were pizzas.  nothing out of the ordinary, excepting that one was gluten-free.  Nice!  We pretty much ate it all too.  there were only a couple of pieces left, of which some lucky person can have pizza for breakfast.  Yum!

Pizza is just plain like able and appreciated...

Catacombs Pub

Catacombs may no longer be open for business, but here is the old post about it.
Catacombs are artificial caverns.. and true to the name this place is underground... you must go down the stairwell to get there.  I have read that during the Roman Empire, at the time when the Christians were persecuted for their faith, they built and used an elaborate network of catacombs as a refuge and often used these underground places as meeting places to hold "church."  This particular cavern-like restaurant is fashioned from the  boiler and coal-delivery room for the downtown  Montevale Hotel.

Just follow the arrow and go down the stairs to this restaurant.  (Their must be an alternative for handicap entrance, call and ask.)

We were out walking, after a night
at the symphony, and while walking by the  Catacombs Pub, Geo and I decided to take a trip downstairs and check it out.

Over the years, I have heard many rumors that this was a great spot, and so I was quite excited that finally, we had a chance to see what this place was like.  (In case you are wondering, the rumors are true; this place was great. I think this is one of my new favorite places!)

I didn't particularly find the hard wooden church pew type of seats to be comfortable, and it took a while for my eyes to adjust to the dimly lit room.  Not only that, but there were cold wafts of air that crept under our table from some vent by the floor and settled in around our feet... but but then who ever heard of well-lit, pillow-lined, electrically heated catacombs?   Not me.  So, while the beautiful wooden seats were smooth and hard beneath me, and the wafts of cold air were chilling me on that cool autumn night, I have to admit, I did love the ambiance of it all.  It did kinda feel like being in a catacomb. We did  end up moving a little closer to the center of the room.

The place was busy.  The warm glow of a fire blazing inside the pizza oven filled the cavernous room and a wonderful aroma of spices hung in the air.  I could hear the low murmur of the other customer's voices talking in hushed tones as people sipped their wines, laughed and clanked in their groups.  As we looked over the menu, we wanted to try all the pizzas they offered.  Deciding what to order was hard to do.

The Margaretta, Orient Express, Cashew Chicken, the Antioch.... the Tuscany, (Their names for Pizzas, all sounded good.   They also make Chicken Paprikash... (a Hungarian dish,) Lasagna, Meatloaf and Beef Stroganoff.   It was a difficult choice, but in the end, we were taken-in by the pizza; and I loved the taste of our Garlic Pesto Pizza that we finall decided to order.... The Garlic Pesto.   It was wonderful!

I did notice that one specialty this restaurant offers is S'More's for dessert.  Apparently t    iiu   ey bring you the ingredients for this famous camping desert and then you get to make them yourself at your table... a rather fun idea if you ask me.  I do not particularly like S'More's, but I like the concept.   Me? I am more inclined to try the Nutella Calzone or Apple Crisp. Unfortunately for us, having arrived rather late, by time we finished pizza, the kitchen had completely closed, so we had to skip dessert.

Oh, well.  Next time I might have to come in earlier and have some dessert!

The Catacombs is located in the cellar of the Montvale Hotel.at 110 S. Monroe Street and is open daily at 5:00 pm.  Tel: (509) 838-4610.  It is affiliated with the nearby Montevale Hotel.
