Skyway Cafe

Today's trek was to breakfast at the Skyway Cafe at Felt's Field, 6105 E. Rutter Ave
Spokane.
What a special treat that was!

Felts is an airport in Spokane, one of the first airports ever to have been in existence.  It was built in 1927 and for the next twenty or so years, it served as the municipal airport in Spokane.  The restaurant has been there a  long time too... almost as long.  So more than a restaurant trip, this was a little step back into Spokane history too.

This working and multi-sided  clock was quite a sight to see.  I really liked it, as well as
the welcome sign saluting those who served our country in the military that would fly in to Felts.

There were airplanes on the windows too.

This sign welcomed us to the restaurant today, as did our waitress.

The place was very busy.  Seems a lot of people know this was a great place to have a bite to eat.  A lot of people love airplanes as well as breakfast on a Saturday Morning in Spokane.

(click on the photos to get a closer look.)

We enjoyed looking at all the pilot and airplane paraphernalia.  Not only was it interesting but it was everywhere.

The "Red Baron," the well known cartoon known as Snoopy, was there too.

We enjoyed our breakfast too.  We ordered  pancakes, (buckwheat in this case, but they serve the traditional buttermilk too,) egg (over easy) and bacon.... with coffee, and biscuits and gravy, (a half-order) with an egg on the side.  When you order food here, some people opt for half orders instead of full orders.... just so you know.

Not only was the food great, but the service was excellent, and the historical aspect of it all was fascinating.  Below is the bathroom sink.

This airplane flying above the EAA building in the parking lot is actually a wind indicator.

The sign reads:

"AIRPLANE RIDES
$1
No drunks.... ladies must wear bloomers."

Brambleberry Cottage

Brambleberry Cottage is a tea gift shoppe and tea room in Spokane.  There is almost no better way to relax with a friend than to go to "tea," and that is just what I did when I went to tea at this lovely little place with my friend this day.  But, let me tell you, this is a tiny little tucked away place that you might never know about unless you were looking for it. It's located east of division, south of Sprague, at 206 E. Pacific Avenue, here in Spokane.

Here is a picture of the a picture they have on the wall depicting the establishment.  I liked it rather than my own photo because there are leaves on the trees.  The day I went it was windy and rainy....January day, and a perfect day for hot tea.

Here is looking out from inside the door.

There is a staircase when you first walk in, and a guest book and for me there was a closed wooden door.  Having never been here before, it was a little bit awkward to know which way to go, but I took a risk and opened the door.  It was the right choice.  (The door was closed to keep out the cold.) On the other side of the door was the Brambleberry experience.

Here is our little reserved table, to the right,  and some pictures of the other rooms, even the upstairs, where there is a bit of overflow space and many very pretty items to browse.

.

Dawn, the owner, has added some beautiful touches to the decor.

I loved the rose art, and the Spokane nostalgia on the walls upstairs. There were little special touches everywhere.

After some exploring and looking over the tea menu, it was time for tea.

...and crumpets.  Never having had "crumpets" before, I thought that was the highlight of our meal, on the other hand, everything was delicious!
The crumpet was like a crispy English muffin-pancake.  If that sounds interesting to you, then you simply must try these delicious things for yourself.

But that is not all we had.  The crumpet was served with jam and Devonshire cream, and this amongst a vast array of wonderful things to eat... and actually it was on one of three plates...

There as a scrumptious fruit sauce served over these little round cakes.  Marvelous!  Along with our sandwiches and sweets,, we had some dill/potato soup.  (All served on pretty little plates!)  Certainly, such a tea time as this is a bit of a feminine thing to to, it is true that men,
(while they would probably rather be hunting or fishing,) in the right company, often enjoy "tea time" too!

I noticed that the house number placard is actually a colorful collage , or rather mosaic of pretty broken chine piece.  Another clever and endearing touch by the ladies at Brambleberry Cottage.

Didier's Yogurt and More

Didier's has great frozen yogurt... and "more."  The "MORE" part is soups, chili, salads, sandwiches, hamburgers, shakes, yogurt desserts from the freezer, espresso and things like that.  There IS a lot MORE than soft frozen yogurt!  This place won 2nd Place in the KREM 2010 Best of Spokane for Ice Cream Shops.  It is the place we like to go to get an espresso shake, I have to say too that we think it is the best espresso shake in town.  We stop here occasionally for one (or two)  of those.  In my opinion, in the world of ice cream shops, this one definitely wins the prize for "MORE."

I went here the other day with a hungry friend and decided to add the experience to my blog.  It's a great little place that has been in town for years... I just do not go out for ice cream or frozen yogurt too regularly, but when I do, his is one of the places I go.  Lately we come here to get a espresso shakes!  On this day,  my friend had a turkey sandwich and soup, while I enjoyed a "child"-sized Cafe-a-Lait flavored yogurt in a cup.

The service was much faster than I expected.  We barely sat down and our coffee was being served. The turkey sandwich was good sized, fresh, and convenient, but a little spendy. My friend said her sandwich and her soup, (not very well seen in this picture ) were both delicious.

The child size yogurt was quite small and costing over $2.00,  ($2.29 to be exact,) I didn't think it to be much of a good deal.  It was quite small...as ou can see above.   It was however fewer calories that a large one and it tasted good, and I was able to spend time with my friend, so I was okay with that.

The frozen yogurt is not bargain priced enough to make it a family habit, but it's not bad for a special occasion treat.  But the bargain day for yogurt is on Tuesdays when you can get a medium dish of the frozen yogurt for $1.79.. (less than a  minuscule "child's size,") so THAT is a good deal.  You can also get your yogurt in cones.

It you have never had frozen yogurt before, be warned... it tastes just as yummy as ice cream, with all the healthy benefits of yogurt!

When you go to get yogurt you will find that they have a variety of flavors; flavors that change daily, so its a bit of a bummer that you never really know for sure if your favorite flavor will be there.  However, you can call ahead to find out more at (509) 466-8434 and rest assured, they do have at least 6 varieties at a time and offer wonderful and even exotic flavors like French vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, banana, cookies and cream, peaches and cream, coconut, pistachio Kahlua and pumpkin pie.

In addition to your yogurt, and for an additional price (.69) you get to select an item from a wide selection of toppings to add to the top of your yogurty treat; things like gummy bears, chocolate chips, animal cookies, berries and nuts, even some all time favorite candy bar bits.

Located at 10410 North Division Street, Didier's is a great little spot to take your family out for a special treat.
